BALTIMORE, 05-30-08---Dicey D J returns to Pimlico Race Course on Saturday in search of her second stakes win of the month, this time the $60,000 Pearl Necklace Stakes for 3-year-old state-bred fillies.
Dicey D J (9-5) captured the five furlong Hookedonthefeelin Stakes on the turf here May 3rd under Rosie Napravnik. They will team up again in the 1-1/16 mile Pearl Necklace, also scheduled for the turf. The daughter of Milwaukee Brew is trained by Linda Rice at Belmont Park.
“She was the best horse in that race and was very easy to ride,” Napravnik said. “From that race it would not appear she could not go long and if she does she’ll be really tough.”
Trainer Richard Small has entered two runners, Hartigan and Inventive (2-1), who are both homebred runners owned by Fitzhugh LLC. Hartigan is the more accomplished of the two. The daughter of Include has won both the Gin Talking Stakes on the turf and the Hilltop Stakes on the main track. Inventive is a winner of two of nine starts and finished third behind her stablemate in the Hilltop.
Heavenly Moon (6-1) has started ten times, with a victory and four seconds. The Hamilton Smith trained filly will carry jockey Malcolm Franklin in pursuit of her first added money score. She finished third in her most recent starts and both were on the turf.
John Servis will send Outside Lane (8-1) from Philadelphia Park with hopes of improving off her third place finish in the Trevose Stakes. Prior to that start, she finished fifth in the Hookedonthefeelin. J.D. Acosta will be aboard the Outflanker filly.
Clara’s Song (8-1) has finished in the money five times in seven starts, including a strong second in her last try, an optional allowance test on the grass for trainer Carlos Garcia.
Poised by Design (8-1) left the maiden ranks at Pimlico on May 3rd, winning by ¾ of length under jockey Horacio Karamanos for trainer Kelly Breen. Karamanos retains the mount. This will be her first try on the grass.
Completing the field is My Little Josie (12-1), who is 1-1-1 in five starts on the turf. She broke her maiden on the grass at Colonial, finished second in the Tippett Stakes and third in the Hookenonthefeelin. Geovany Garcia has been aboard in all seven career starts for the Ann Merryman trained daughter of Outflanker.
