18-Year-Old Won 3 Races in Puerto Rico Before Moving to Laurel

BALTIMORE – As first impressions go, it doesn’t get any better than what Jeiron Barbosa did Friday at Laurel Park.

A 10-pound apprentice from San Juan, Puerto Rico who had been in the U.S. for all of two days, the 18-year-old Barbosa made an immediate splash on the American racing scene by winning with each of his first two domestic mounts.

Two on the Turf, Low 12-Percent Takeout

BALTIMORE – Friday’s Stronach 5, which has consistently produced a strong return on investment with a low 12-percent takeout, will feature four tracks Friday with full fields and competitive races.

The Stronach 5 will feature races from Laurel Park, Santa Anita Park, Gulfstream Park and Golden Gate Fields. The races from Santa Anita and Gulfstream are both scheduled on the turf.

3-Year-Old Filly Rolls By 3 ½ Lengths in One-Mile Stakes

BALTIMORE – Deborah Greene and Hamilton Smith’s Luna Belle made her first attempt at stretching out look easy, rolling to a fourth consecutive stakes victory in Saturday’s $100,000 Beyond the Wire at Laurel Park.

The 34th running of the one-mile Beyond the Wire for 3-year-old fillies was the fourth of five stakes worth $450,000 in purses on the St. Patrick’s Day weekend program, co-headlined by the $100,000 Private Terms for 3-year-olds.
