BALTIMORE – Jockey J.G. Torrealba continued what has been a torrid August with five winners on Sunday’s eight-race program at Laurel Park.

The 22-year-old native of Venezuela moved into second place in the rider standings at Laurel’s 35-day summer meet, which wraps up Aug. 18 and has three scheduled racing days remaining. His 30 wins trail only Jaime Rodriguez (39), who won twice Sunday.

BALTIMORE – A forecast calling for high winds and heavy rain in the wake of Tropical Storm Debby has led the Maryland Jockey Club to cancel Friday’s nine-race program at Laurel Park.

The tropical storm, which first made landfall last week in Florida, has moved up the East Coast and was expected to pass through the Mid-Atlantic region bringing wind gusts of up to 33 mph and as much as two inches of rain according to the National Weather Service.
