Pimlico To Attempt The Guinness Book Of World Records For Largest Zumba Class On Black-Eyed Susan Day

BALTIMORE, 04-08-14---Pimlico Race Course will attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records for largest Zumba® class on Friday, May 16. The class, sponsored by LifeBridge Health, will support the Maryland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®, one of the two charities Pimlico is teaming up with on Black-Eyed Susan Day.

The current record is 6,671 participants, which was set in India on September 15, 2012.

The event is part of a festival in the infield that will include 100 women-owned businesses and vendors displaying goods, promoting health, fitness, wellness, education, career, relationships and family.

“It is a novel idea that promotes fitness,” Pimlico president Tom Chuckas said. “The Maryland Jockey Club is bringing in celebrity instructors Gina Grant and Kass Martin for the day.”

"We are excited that Pimlico Race Course has chosen a Zumbathon Charity Event as their vehicle to promote healthy and happy lifestyles to women during Black-Eyed Susan Day,” said Jonathan Perlman, Zumba Fitness Events Director.

“As our neighbor, we are pleased to see the Maryland Jockey Club support our efforts to improve the health of our local communities,” said Neil Meltzer, President and Chief Executive Officer of LifeBridge Health. “Being the title sponsor of this event, which encourages exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle, fits with LifeBridge Health’s core mission of caring for our communities together.”

Tickets are $40 with $10 going directly to Komen Maryland, the global leader of the breast cancer movement.

The first 1,000 who register will receive free parking. Registration also includes access to the Black-Eyed Susan Women’s Festival activities and the concert featuring Counting Crows, The Fray and Annie Bosko.
