Races from Laurel, Santa Anita, Gulfstream, and Golden Gate

BALTIMORE – There were 21 winning tickets in Friday’s Stronach 5 with each worth $5,642.30.

The Stronach 5 featured races from Laurel Park, Santa Anita Park, Gulfstream Park, and Golden Gate Fields with a low 12-percent takeout. Two of the five legs produced payouts of more than $8, and both came at Gulfstream.

The Stronach 5 kicked off with the 3-1 shot Titan’s Will and Johan Rosado winning Laurel’s ninth race. It was the gelding’s seventh career win and first at the 1 1/8-mile distance. The action shifted to Santa Anita Park for the second leg of the sequence and the 2-1 shot Increase Stakes holding off Youte. Gulfstream’s eighth race served as the third leg and it was Merseyside pulling off a bit of an upset at odds of 5-1. Smarmy, the 1-2 favorite, broke poorly and finished third.

Golden Gate’s third race, the fourth leg of the sequence, was won by 2-1 favorite Absolute Scenes, who drove past the field inside the final sixteenth. The Stronach 5 concluded with Gulfstream’s ninth race and Sanura driving to victory for trainer Barclay Tagg and jockey Julien Leparoux at odds of 9-2.

The minimum wager on the multi-race, multi-track Stronach 5 is $1. If there are no tickets with five winners, the entire pool will be carried over to the next Friday.

If a change in racing surface is made after the wagering closes, each selection on any ticket will be considered a winning selection. If a betting interest is scratched, that selection will be substituted with the favorite in the win pool when wagering closes.
