BALTIMORE – Since the age of 3, when she first sat on a pony in the parking lot of the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium, Jessica Hammond’s life has been one consumed by horses.

As she grew older, so did her passion. Whether counseling backstretch workers, as an owner herself, or in helping find them forever homes, horses have always been part of the equation.

Stronach 5 Rewards 26 Bettors with $5,094 Each

LAUREL, MD –Friday’s Stronach 5, highlighted by three turf races and four different tracks, had 26 winners, each receiving $5,094.70.

Friday’s sequence began at Gulfstream Park in Florida with Allurstra winning the eighth race and returning $29.40, and ending in California with the gray Confidentially winning the sixth race at Santa Anita Park and paying $11.40.

The national wager has an industry-low 12-percent takeout and a guaranteed pool of $100,000.

Multiple Stakes Winner May Shorten Up Upon Return

BALTIMORE – Runnymede Racing’s multiple stakes winner Alwaysmining, who had his six-race win streak snapped in the 144th Preakness (G1) May 18, emerged from the race in good order and returned to the track this week, trainer Kelly Rubley said.

Alwaysmining had his first gallop Thursday at Fair Hill Training Center in Elkton, Md., five days after finishing 11th in the 1 3/16-mile Preakness, where he went off as the fourth choice of 13 sophomores at odds of 6-1.

BALTIMORE – The 20-cent Rainbow 6 saw its carryover jackpot swell to $217,321.44 after going unsolved for the sixth consecutive racing day Thursday at Pimlico Race Course.

First race post time for Friday’s nine-race card is 1:10 p.m.

A total of $59,264 was bet into the popular multi-race wager Thursday on top of a carryover of $198,373.42 from the Preakness Stakes (G1) program May 18. Tickets with five of six winners were worth $835.94.
