BALTIMORE, 04-16-13---The Maryland Jockey Club and sports marketing and event management company Corrigan Sports Enterprises, Inc. (CSE) announced today the return of the “Down the Stretch for SGK” Preakness 5k. The race will take place Saturday, May 11 at Pimlico Race Course with part of the proceeds benefitting the Maryland Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.

Manito Makes It Four Straight With Saturdays Score

BALTIMORE, 04-13-13---Manito won for the fourth consecutive time with a front-running score in Saturday’s $47,000 allowance feature at Pimlico Race Course.

The 7-year-old gelding accelerated to a 4-1/2 length lead at the top of the stretch and was ridden out by jockey Yomar Ortiz to a half-length victory over Pass You Bye Bye. Owned and trained by King Leatherbury, Manito finished the 5-1/2 furlong test in 1:04.36 and paid $3.60.

Preakness Infieldfest, Black-Eyed Susan Day Concerts Finalized

BALTIMORE, 04-12-13---The Maryland Jockey Club today announced that Afrojack will open the main stage at 2013 Preakness InfieldFest on Saturday, May 18 at Pimlico Race Course, while Rodney Atkins and Rachel Farley will perform at the Black-Eyed Susan concert a day earlier, May 17.

McCarthy Breaks Tibia During Training Thursday Morning, Out 8-10 Weeks

BALTIMORE, 04-11-13---Promising apprentice rider Trevor McCarthy will miss 8-10 weeks with a broken left tibia, according to his agent Scott Silver. McCarthy was injured Thursday morning at Laurel Park during training when a horse he was working wheeled and dropped the jockey. The 18-year-old will have surgery Monday, April 15.

“It really wasn’t a bad fall,” Silver said. “It was the way he landed.”

Pimlico Announces 2013 Alibi Breakfast Award Winners

BALTIMORE, 04-11-13—Pimlico Race Course today announced the winners of this year’s Preakness media awards. Honorees will be recognized and awards presented at the May 16 Alibi Breakfast in the Terrace Dining Room. The ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m., two days prior to the middle jewel of the Triple Crown, the $1 million Preakness® Stakes (G1).

Chasin' for Children Pony Races Enhances Sunday Racing

BALTIMORE, 04-07-13---Pimlico Race Course presented the second annual Chasin’ for Children Pony Races between races Sunday afternoon. Forty-eight runners took part in the six races.

Embarr Remains Perfect At Pimlico With Dahlia Stakes Score

BALTIMORE, 04-06-13---Embarr and jockey Forest Boyce teamed up to win for the fifth time, beating 25-1 longshot Ask Me Anything in the $77,500 Dahlia Stakes for fillies and mares this afternoon at Pimlico Race Course. The Dahlia was one of two stakes races on Saturday’s 10-race card.

Ben's Cat Wins Mister Diz Stakes For Fourth Straight Year

BALTIMORE, 04-06-13--- Make that four years in a row for Ben’s Cat in the $75,000 Mister Diz Stakes. The Jim Stable star from the King Leatherbury barn carried Julian Pimentel to an easy 1-3/4 length victory over the firm turf at Pimlico Race Course.

“Four years in a row, that’s quite rare,” said Leatherbury, who owns, trains and bred Ben’s Cat. “He is amazing.”

Japan Selected To Host International Pavilion At The 2013 Preakness Stakes

BALTIMORE, 04-05-13— The Maryland Jockey Club (MJC) today announced the selection of Japan as the Host Nation of the 2013 International Pavilion at the Preakness Stakes.  With this designation, the Embassy of Japan and Ambassador Kenichiro Sasae will serve as Honorary Hosts welcoming distinguished guests and dignitaries to historic Pimlico Race Course for the annual running of the Preakness Stakes.  

“In just three years, the International Pavilion has become the premier destination at Pimlico on Preakness Day and we are delighted to partner with the Embassy of Japan and Ambassador Sasae in bringing the international community to the annual running of the Preakness,” said Tom Chuckas, Maryland Jockey Club president.
