The Selima and $150,000 Laurel Futurity for 2-year-olds, both scheduled for 1 1/16 miles on the grass, co-headline a program featuring five stakes worth $575,000 on opening weekend of Laurel’s calendar year-ending fall meet.

BALTIMORE - Two days after Queen Elizabeth II passed away at the age of 96 following a 70-year reign, a horse she bred in England won Saturday’s second race at historic Pimlico Race Course.

West Newton, a 6-year-old gelding ridden by Forest Boyce for trainer Richard Hendriks, rallied from sixth to win by a half-length while covering a firm 1 1/8-mile turf course in 1:52.12.
