BALTIMORE, 04-14-12---Charles Reed and  Mike Zanella’s Bold Affair rolled up on frontrunner Valiant Passion and rolled away to a convincing score in the $75,000 Primonetta Stakes, the feature offering Saturday afternoon at Pimlico Race Course.

Abel Castellano was just a passenger aboard the 4-year-old filly until he asked her to engage Valiant Passion around the far turn in the 6-furlong test.  They made quick work of that rival and pulled away to win in handy fashion by 2-3/4 lengths, stopping the timer in 1:10.67. Aquitania rallied to finish second, while Enchante passed Valiant Passion to take third.

“I was right behind the speed and I just let her do her own. She did it well. As soon as I got to the front, she was much the best,” Castellano said. “She keeps getting better and better. I am looking for her to have a big year.”

The winner, who is trained by Howard Wolfendale, paid $4 as the program and post time favorite. Castellano and Wolfendale teamed up to win the Conniver Stakes at Laurel Park on March 10 with the daughter of Two Punch in her previous start.

“It looked like he (Castellano) had to steady her a little bit to get her outside and getting her restarted can be tough because of how big she is,” Wolfendale said. “But once she got rolling it was not in question.”

Wolfendale said his star would run next in the $125,000 Skipat Stakes on Black-Eyed Susan Day, Friday May 18.

This was Bold Affair’s third stakes win, having won the Jostle Stakes at Parx Racing last year. The filly has now won six of ten starts with earnings of $302,880 and finished off the board only once in the Interborough at Aqueduct on New Year’s Day.

Saturday’s promotion was the “Wild West Comes To Pimlico”, which included aBBQ and Brew Fest with country music standout Detour playing on the track apron between races. On-track events featured performances by Hi Yo Silver and the Lone Ranger, bull herding, trick riding and roman riding.
