04-26-13--The National Thoroughbred Racing Association (NTRA) announced today that Laurel Park in Laurel, Md., has been fully accredited by the NTRA Safety and Integrity Alliance and that Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore has been re-accredited by the Alliance following a complete review of all racing operations at the two Maryland Jockey Club (MJC) facilities.

Tesio And Shine Again Stakes Top Saturday Card

BALTIMORE, 04-25-13---Pimlico Race Course will feature two stakes on Saturday afternoon, the $75,000 Federico Tesio Stakes for up-and-coming three year olds and the $50,000 Shine Again Stakes for Maryland-bred fillies and mares.

The Tesio is the prep for runners with an eye on competing in the Preakness Stakes (G1) on Saturday, May 18. Ten runners are entered.

Pimlico Press Box Renamed Sunday Afternoon

BALTIMORE, 04-21-13---Before Sunday’s first race, the Pimlico Race Course press box was renamed to include Joe Kelly, who covered horse racing for nearly 70 years prior to his passing in November at the age of 94. The Red Smith-Joe Kelly Press Box will be at full capacity next month for the 138th running of the Preakness Stakes.

Kelly began his career at the Baltimore Sun in the 1940s then moved to the Washington Starin 1955 where he spent the next 26 years. After retiring, he became the publicity director for the Maryland Million and was Pimlico Race Course’s historical consultant until his death.

Eighttofasttocatch Wires The Field In The Henry Clark Stakes

Eighttofasttocatch brings home another winBALTIMORE, 04-20-13---Sylvia E. Heft’s Eighttofasttocatch took the lead ten jumps out of the gate and then led the rest of the way to win the $91,750 Henry S. Clark Stakes at Pimlico Race Course on Saturday.

Winning for the first time in four tries at Pimlico, Eighttofasttocatch carried Forrest Boyce for the first time to a widening, five length victory in 1:43.91 for the 1-1/16th mile distance. The race had been carded at one mile on the turf but lost eleven runners to scratches when it was moved to the main track.

Bold Affair Repeats In Primonetta Stakes

Bold Affair wins her ninth stakes victoryBALTIMORE, 04-20-13---Charles Reed & Mike Zanella’s Bold Affair rallied from last to repeat as the winner of the $95,000 Primonetta Stakes at Pimlico Race Course.

Under a patient ride by Abel Castellano for trainer Howard Wolfendale, Bold Affair was notching her ninth stakes victory and her fifth win at Pimlico, beating a gutsy Irish Exchange by a half-length. The daughter of Two Punch is a perfect three-for-three in 2013 with earlier victories in the What A Summer and Conniver Stakes at Laurel Park.

Jewel Of A Cat Powers To Victory In Stormy Blues Stakes

Jewel of a CatBALTIMORE, 04-20-13---J & J Stables & GSP Stable’s Jewel of a Cat flashed another gear and pulled away from six rival three-year old fillies in the $75,000 Stormy Blues Stakes, the first of three stakes races at Pimlico Race Course this afternoon.

Chris DeCarlo rode the Benny Perkins trained daughter of Wildcat Heir to a 2-3/4 length victory in 59.09 for the five-furlong distance on the main track. The race had been scheduled for the turf and lost three runners to scratches when it was moved to the main track.

Three Stakes Top Saturday's 11-Race Card At Pimlico

BALTIMORE, 04-18-13---Pimlico Race Course continues to roll out its 2013 spring stakes schedule with three $75,000 races on an 11-race program on Saturday afternoon. Each race also has a $25,000 bonus for Maryland-bred runners.

The Stormy Blues Stakes (race 7) goes five furlongs on the turf and is restricted to three-year old fillies. The Primonetta (race 9) will match nine fillies and mares at six furlongs on the main track. The Henry S. Clark (race 10) puts fourteen runners in the gate for a race of one mile on the turf.
